Introduction:

Brunel Construction is a commercial construction company, formed by Paul Anning, Peter Haywood and David Woods with the aim of providing construction excellence to selected clients in the commercial, education, retail and health sectors within the Bay of Plenty and Waikato. In 2016 Peter retired from the company to concentrate on charitable work and Kevin Hughes joined the business. Paul Anning, Kevin Hughes and David Woods have over 100 years of experience in the construction industry and are using this knowledge and expertise to provide a product that is well above the industry norm. By combining this with a high level of integrity, a service is provided that can be relied on to deliver a quality project safely, on time and within budget.

Point of Difference:

Paul and Peter worked together in the senior management team within the Tauranga office of a major national for five years, building relationships with the best construction consultants, subcontractors, suppliers and personnel in the region. Brunel Construction was formed as a result of this working relationship. Before joining Brunel, Kevin worked for a major national contractor, primarily working in the Bay of Plenty, for 10+ years.

The strengths of larger contractors is their professionalism, systems and depth of expertise. However with this, the personal approach and the teamwork of directly employing the tradesmen that carry out the work can be lost. Brunel successfully brings together the attributes of big company experience, whilst maintaining personal involvement through a hands on approach and directly employing all their own staff and tradesmen.

Organisational Structure:

Brunel’s senior management team are the directors and shareholders of their company. Their different yet complementary strengths and areas of expertise allow them to contribute in line with their equal stake in the company. Accountable to their managers are a team of site managers, foremen and quantity surveyors. Brunel recognise the importance of directly employed staff in maintaining the quality and programme requirements of a project. Brunel directly employ site managers of the highest standard and their own trade qualified carpenters.

Whats in the name?

At Brunel we are often asked “what’s in the name”?
Isambard Kingdom Brunel was a distinguished engineer in Victorian Britain. At the forefront of innovation, he was known as a problem solver whilst pushing the boundaries of his profession. From railways to ships, tunnels and large station buildings he left his mark on nineteenth century England. A recent BBC survey ranked him the second most respected Briton in history (after Winston Churchill). We consider that the attributes he displayed is what we are all about, hence the choice of name!
